The Virgin Islands is a tourist paradise and a mecca for shoppers. Hundred of duty-free shops lined the streets and alleys of the main shopping area, Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas. Most visitors to the island go shopping for perfumes, jewelry, art, clothing watches, and other items that are highly-priced elsewhere.

It is a haven for cruise lines that embark in the harbor and the thousands of passengers just flock to the malls and streets to take advantage of the several bargains with up to half price less at these stores than on the mainland. US residents enjoy a larger duty-free allowance in the US Virgin Islands - which is normally twice the limit of most other Caribbean islands.

In Christiansted in St. Croix there are many art galleries and the Mongoose Junction area of Cruz Bay in St. John, you can find an abundance of souvenir goods including handmade items of wood and art. US citizens also enjoy the perk of purchasing up to six bottles of liquor, without the additional fee as long as you purchase a local rum from the islands.

Another great reason to go shopping on the islands is the name brand and designer goods that they carry at about half the cost of other islands. Their beachwear are very desirable as most are made of organic material which is very soft on the body. There are also plenty of souvenir shops where you will be sure to find something to take home as a memory of your trip on the island.
