Cayman Brac
Cayman Brac is the second largest of the Cayman Islands and known as a Nature Lovers’ Paradise with limestone cliff and caves that run the length of the island. Sunken ships, diving sites, bird watching, and a lighthouse in the east, makes this island a place for a great family vacation. The beautiful Brac parrot resort on the island is home to some endangered parrots. There is not much to tourism in this fishing island but here residents work in quarries, fishing boats, many private businesses, and local government. The island is more family-oriented than the other islands and the residents here are very laid back.
Grand Cayman Island
The Grand Cayman Island is the largest and most popular of the three islands. The Grand Cayman is famous for its miles of coral sandy beaches, duty-free shopping, luxury resorts, and scuba diving activities. There are also lots of interests for tourists on the island like the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Garden with its amazing flora and fauna, the seven-mile beach with its white sand and sparkling waters also known as nature’s therapeutic center, drawing thousands of visitors from around the world. Also, there is the effervescent Stingray City where you have the opportunity to swim and mingle with dozens of friendly stingrays. It takes a love for nature and beauty to discover Grand Cayman’s greatest treasures like the underwater shipwrecks that lay quietly undisturbed in the water below and uncover a world of adventure that awaits you.
The Cayman Crystal Caves
The Cayman Crystal Caves situated in a tropical forest in the Grand Cayman is one of the island’s newest attraction. This attraction is a guided tour through tropical forests and underground caves. You will be enthralled by the amazing caves where you will see stalactites and stalagmites, crystal structures and natural formations formed by drops of water over millions of years. Fossils of shells and animal life in the caves tell us that at one time they were all in the ocean, but as time past and the sea levels changed, and the land began to rise, huge spaces were formed by the erosions, now known as caves. The caves are still evolving today. Years ago these caves were used as hideouts by pirates for shelter from their prey and the elements of nature. Today, locals used the surrounding lush lands for farming and used the caves as fertilizers for their products. It is a great adventure and should be on your bucket list for the Cayman Islands.
George Town
Located on the island of Grand Cayman, George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands and the perfect mix of Caribbean paradise with a wealth of activities and duty-free shopping. George Town is the home of one of the busiest ports for cruise ship passengers and a popular destination for travelers. With its wonderful climate, interesting culture and white sandy beaches, there is plenty to do in this little land of paradise in the Caribbean. George Town is the financial hub of all the islands and home to the major Government Buildings on the island. With over six hundred banks and Trust companies in George Town, the island is a true haven of happiness and grandeur.
Little Cayman
Little Cayman is the least populous of all the islands with a population of just about 200 people easily outnumbered by iguanas and birds. Little Cayman is known for its excellent bird watching and scuba diving activities, its unspoiled habitat and laid back atmosphere. The coral reefs of Little Cayman are some of the best forms of information for researchers and educators alike whose interest is in marine eco-system. While the island is known for its diverse coral and fish species, it also has the largest breeding population of frigate birds, red-footed boobies, parrots, iguanas up to 4 feet long, lizards and a bevy of land and sea animals that roam the island. When visiting the island, it is well-advised to always keep an eye out for these valuable creatures.
Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Garden
The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Garden is an outdoor garden and wildlife facility in Grand Cayman, owned jointly by the Cayman Island government and the National Trust for the islands, a group dedicated to preserving the natural environments of the Cayman Islands. A beautiful 65-acre park with woodland walking trails, beautiful flowers, lake, wetland for water life and an orchid boardwalk, the garden is just a unique blend of natural beauty. The Park is designed into a group of Gardens arranged by colors, pink, lavender, green red, etc. In addition to the beautiful flora and fauna in the garden, there’s also a beautiful Woodland Trail about a mile long where you can admire the garden’s natural vegetation. There is also a 2-acre lake with an adjacent wetland that is home to local and foreign birds, that attract many bird watchers from around the world.
Stingray City
This once in a lifetime attraction of being up close and personal with stingrays is one of the most desired attractions in the Cayman Islands. Stingray City is a group of sandbars located about 25 miles off the shore of the Grand Canyon. The “city” is a shallow sandbar where you can interact and even feed the stingrays that live freely in those waters. That area of the ocean where the stingray resides is only accessible by boat. The stingrays are not dangerous and have an opportunity to swim with the stingrays is truly a unique experience.
Atlantis Submarines
Atlantis submarines offer visitors a chance to see the real beauty of the underwater world through the submarine’s large viewing windows. The submarine plunges to about 100 feet deep so passengers can get a view of the shallow reefs, tropical fish, underwater canyons, and shipwrecks that lay beneath the sea, that could only be seen by submarine. You will be amazed by the colorful canyons, lively reefs, and historical shipwrecks that lay beneath the ocean as you enjoy the beautiful wonder of life beneath the sea.
Beaches- Cayman Islands
The beaches of the Cayman Islands are gorgeously perfect with powdery white sand and crystal blue waters. Whether you are hoping for that beautiful suntan, or just a casual swim in the ocean, or experience the plethora of water sports available on the island there are plenty of beaches to enjoy. Cayman Island National Museum
The museum located in the Old Courts Building on Harbor Drive in Grand Cayman is dedicated to the heritage of the Caymanian people. The museum is a historical gem that teaches the History of the Grand Cayman. At the museum, there is a multimedia presentation and numerous galleries, interactive exhibits and an easy way to learn the history, culture, geography, and geology of the island. There are some interesting information about the turtles which were hunted to near extinction on the island. There are also some ancient arts, crafts, equipment and clothing from early inhabitants of the island.
